Kickers may seem like a simple bent piece of rubber, but often it is the simplest things in fishing that make the biggest difference, and these improve the hooking efficiency of a variety of different rigs.

The bent hook set up was very effective at getting a hold in the fish’s mouth, but could also cause a lot of damage. Over the years, anglers have therefore used pieces of shrink tube to recreate the effect. Kickers simplify all this, as they provide the same effect by simply threading over the hook eye, without the need to mess around with steaming or shaping.

They are also perfect for use with spinner rigs, and we now have an XL version that can be used with our new Spinner Swivels XX. Some anglers want to camouflage their rig as much as possible, and Green or Brown are perfect for that, but on some waters a colourful tube on the hook can actually increase visibility – therefore, Red/White and Yellow/Pink versions are also available if you want to add a splash of colour.

For those who use natural baits such as maggots and casters, or often fish on silt bottoms where bloodworm are present, there is the latest addition to the kicker range: Bloodworm Red.

All kickers, regardless of colour, are made from robust rubber and are available in four different sizes to suit the hook you are using – Small for sizes 10 and 12; Medium for sizes 6 and 8; Large for sizes 2 and 4; and XL for sizes 1 and 2. All sit securely over the hook eye. When you hook a fish, the kicker straightens out during the fight, but then returns to its original shape and is ready to be used again.
