Kickers may seem like a simple bent piece of rubber, but often the simplest things in fishing make the biggest difference, and these improve the hooking efficiency of a variety of rigs.

The bent hook setup was highly effective at gaining purchase in the fish’s mouth, but could also cause a lot of damage. Over the years, anglers have therefore used pieces of shrink tube to recreate the effect. Kickers simplify all of this, as they provide the same effect by simply threading them over the hook eye, without the need for steaming or shaping.

They are also perfect for use with spinner rigs, and we now have an XL version that can be used with our new Spinner Swivels XX. Some anglers want to camouflage their rig as much as possible, and Green or Brown are perfect for that, but on some waters, a brightly colored tube on the hook can actually increase visibility – which is why Red/White and Yellow/Pink versions are also available if you want to add a splash of color.

For those using natural baits like maggots and casters, or often fishing on silt bottoms where bloodworms are present, there is the latest addition to the kicker range: Bloodworm Red.

All kickers, regardless of color, are made from robust rubber and are available in four different sizes to suit the hook you are using – Small for size 10 and 12; Medium for size 6 and 8; Large for size 2 and 4; and XL for size 1 and 2. All sit firmly over the hook eye. When you hook a fish, the kicker straightens during the fight, but then returns to its original shape and is ready to be used again.
