Since these Shot on the Hook weights were shown in the Korda Underwater series filmed at Norton Disney, interest has been enormous, and the use of this rig has seen a major resurgence since the film's release.

Shot on the Hook improves the hooking properties of all wafter, bottom bait, or snowman rigs. It essentially creates a heavier point at the hook, making it easier for the hook to take hold and providing quick and effective hookups – more takes instead of just cautious plucks.

These hook weights are made from pure tungsten, which gives them a very high density relative to their size. The high density means we can achieve sufficient weight with very little material, resulting in a compact yet effective Shot on the Hook.

The reusable tungsten weight can be used again and again. It has a small rubber form that slides over the hook point to hold the weight in place. When it's time to change hooks, you can simply slide it off if you are using barbless hooks. If you are using barbed hooks, you should first flatten the barb before removing the weight.

Shot on the Hook is available in three sizes: 0.30g, 0.40g, and 0.50g. They come in a convenient slide-top box for secure storage in your tackle box, with ten weights per pack.

DF's tips:

• 0.3g – recommended for hook sizes 8, 6, and 4 with small baits up to 14mm.

• 0.4g – suitable for slightly larger baits of 16–18mm and hook sizes 6, 4, and 2.

• 0.5g – for anglers using larger hooks and big baits of 20–24mm.

The idea is that the lighter the bait, the less force the carp uses when sucking it in. A lighter weight therefore provides a better opportunity for the bait to land properly in the fish's mouth.
